BE DRAWN IN

St. Benedict’s Parish, Milton, is happy to announce the opportunity of our parishioners and visitors to openly view two volumes of the Saint John’s Bible at the end of each Mass in the Parish Hall on April 27th and 28th, 2024.
The Saint John's Bible is the first completely hand-written and hand-illuminated Bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine abbey since the invention of the printing press. The project lead, renowned calligrapher, Donald Jackson, located in Whales worked on the manuscript together with the Benedictine monks at Saint John's University in Minnesota. This sacred work of art took 23 artists and professional scribes over 11 years to complete. The Bible was written on vellum using quill, ink, paint, brushes and special tools to embellish the illuminations with gold leaf.
The Heritage Edition is a hand-illuminated reproduction of the original Saint John’s Bible. Each volume measures 2 x 3 feet when open and is bound in beautifully hand-illuminated red leather. There are only 100 of 299 limited Heritage editions in circulation in the world at the moment.
Six Heritage edition sets are located in Canada. Of those, only the set acquired by the Diocese of Hamilton in 2016 is circulated and displayed throughout Southern Ontario through the generosity of Bishop Crosby and his desire to spread the beauty and life of God’s sacred word.
We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to openly view The Gospels & Acts and the Pentateuch volumes of the Saint John’s Bible. The Saint John’s Bible stirs the heart when viewed in-person. Please, come and be drawn in to the sacred beauty of The Saint John’s Bible..
